Staff Members

Hello.

I am glad you’ve visited the First United Methodist Church Website.

I believe the church is for sinners, imperfect and broken people.  We open our hearts inviting others who are like us to journey together as followers of Jesus, the Savior, and the Lord – repenting and seeking to grow emotionally and spiritually in Christ.  I believe holy living – becoming more like Jesus; and imitating Him is essential as we fulfill His call to love Him, love ourselves and others as we share His love with all near and far.

Let me tell you about my faith journey. You will see the hand of God in it. I am Christina Sung, born in Seoul, South Korea, and raised in a Buddhist family. By God’s grace, I became the first Christian from my family. After college, I went to West Germany for further study. But God’s plan was different. I found the purpose of life in Jesus and received His calling; Mark 6:15 “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.” Years later, I came to the USA for a vacation in 1991, but God whispered another plan. After my Master’s and Doctoral degree, I was ordained as a pastor in 1997. Although I have lived in many countries, including South Korea, Germany, England, Singapore, and Israel, and the USA, I am a citizen of Heaven by faith in Jesus Christ. This is God’s amazing grace!

I know people look for God in many ways. Whether you visit us in person or online, I hope and pray that you find something to encourage you in your spiritual journey.

If you don’t remember me, you don’t lose anything, but if you forget JESUS, you lose EVERYTHING.

Shalom,

Dr. Christina Sung, Pastor

Michael Bell – Ministry Assistant / Youth Director

I answered God’s call to serve at FUMC and arrived here in December of 2014. Since then, I have been blessed to lead Renew Student Ministries for our middle and high school students. I am also grateful for the opportunities to preach and teach God’s Word in our Sunday worship service.

My great passion and desire are for the hearts and minds of people to be transformed as they encounter God in the pages of Scripture. As a teenager, I have always wanted to serve the Lord in the church and see Him use others for His glory. I am so grateful that Jesus has saved me and called me to serve His church!

I was born in Muscatine, IA and grew up south of the Quad Cities area in a rural farming community. I did spend a few years in the Chicago suburbs. I have been married to my wife Christina since 2007 and I have two boys Henry and Eli. In 2010 I received my degree in Pastoral Studies at Christian Life College in Mt. Prospect, IL.

In my free time I enjoy big and small adventures with my wife and boys. You might see me running through your neighborhood, since running is a favorite sport of mine. I especially enjoy running along the riverfront and taking in the beauty of God’s creation! When I am not running around town you can find me reading a book and enjoying a cup of coffee.

I pray that Jesus is your Lord and Savior and that He is your Good Shepherd in this life and for eternity to come!

Jan Neisslie joined the team at First United Methodist Church in May of 2019.

I was born and raised in Clinton, Iowa and during my adult life worked at several banks locally.  I retired from my banking career in 2015.  I am very happy and proud to be working here at FUMC and am really blessed to be meeting and working with all of the members at this church.  I feel I have an extended family with all of you.  On a personal note, I live in Camanche with my granddaughter who just turned 18 and is looking to find full-time work.  I pray she finds what makes her happy, like my job does.
